Yemen generally lacks in modern water and sanitation infrastructure and these issues seem to be worse in border areas. In the northern governorate of Saada, the Ministry of Water & Environment of Yemen initiated plans for updating the wastewater network and treatment plant (WWTP).

Engicon became involved in this project In 2018, assigned to define and justify design criteria and prepare detailed design and final tender documents for Saada’s WWTP.

The scope of services provided an update on the wastewater collection system and treatment plant and all other complementary basic studies.

The studies covered field investigations, topographical surveys, inventory of existing infrastructure and asset valuation. Demographic data was also collected about the current users of the sanitation system; classified by locations, households, gender, and age groups.

Another side to the project included supplying feasibility study and tender documents for installing a photovoltaic system for the WWTP.
